Former Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti admits he still regrets failing to sign Eric Cantona.

Moratti came close to prising Cantona away from Manchester United when he was in his pomp.

He recalled on Radio TV Serie A: "As president you always hope to find someone who will make you win and win big.

"I was looking above all for class in the players, then when I got Samuel (Eto'o) I understood that class was important but when he arrived we fixed the team.

"Regrets? So many. Many times it is tied to not being able to do something, so Cantona would have been a change of gear. Then (Andrea) Pirlo to Milan rather than coaches who I could treat better or worse depending on things.

"But everything you do is for the good of the club."

On the Treble, Moratti also said: "I didn't expect it to be considered so important, but it is. We won everything in a month. Usually I could win one of the three, maybe the championship, first. You suffer until the end, but it was fantastic. We were prepared well by the championships of (Roberto) Mancini and then (Jose) Mourinho."
