Arsenal have continued their success from last season at the start of this campaign. After finishing second in the Premier League and securing a return to the Champions League, Mikel Arteta’s squad look a dangerous side to play against entering the new year. One player, though, might not have the chance to impress as a Gunner. David Ornstein reports for The Atheltic that Aaron Ramsdale could be departing next month.

Aaron Ramsdale Facing Arsenal Exit in January?

Ornstein Believes Goalkeeper Is the Most Obvious Candidate to Leave

The English journalist gave a guide to Arsenal’s January transfer window in an article for The Athletic. In it, he stated that goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale was possibly “the most obvious candidate to exit.” Playing time is important to the 25-year-old and currently the former Bournemouth and Sheffield United player is battling David Raya for the starting spot.

Raya is currently on loan from Brentford, but Ramsdale has been unable to secure a safe spot in Arteta’s starting lineup. Ornstein clarified that “there have been no significant movements yet.” Still, the Englishman has been targeting Euro 2024 with the national team and could pursue a move that guarantees him consistent minutes on the pitch.

Praise for Ramsdale and His Time at Arsenal

Ramsdale rose through the ranks of both the Sheffield United developmental teams and the England youth squads. His time spent with the U21 and U19 English sides has seen him secure victories in both the 2017 Euro U19 tournament and the 2018 Toulon Tournament. He was also a part of the England squad which lost the Euro 2020 Final to Italy.

The 25-year-old has been Arsenal’s top goalkeeper for the past two campaigns. Last season he started all 38 Premier League matches under Arteta. During his time at Bournemouth, manager Eddie Howe called Ramsdale a “very talented goalkeeper.” January could prove to be a crucial month for the Englishman regarding his career with both Arsenal and the national team.
