It remains to be seen what Stefano Pioli’s future looks like, and the same can be said for Thiago Motta, who has been a long-standing candidate to replace Pioli as AC Milan manager if the 58-year-old leaves.

Milan remain in limbo about their manager for next season for several reasons. It is believed that the Rossoneri’s start to 2024 has been well received by the club’s senior figures, as showed by Paolo Scaroni’s recent words, and he could remain at the club.

However, there are still several big games that need to be played before anything is guaranteed. Earlier this month, a report suggested that Pioli’s job could be decided by three games: the two against AS Roma in the Europa League and the Derby della Madonnina.

If Pioli is to be sacked after this season, one of the favourites to replace him in the technical area is Thiago Motta, who has heavily impressed with his Bologna side.

Ahead of Bologna’s game against Salernitana, Thiago Motta spoke to the media about his future – his words have been relayed by MilanNews.

“Will I be like Xabi Alonso? He made a respectable choice, and I wish him the best. Klopp is doing very well at Liverpool while I am here, and I am thinking about the next game against Salernitana… We want to give joy to our people again.”
