We’re 22 days into January and we’re not hearing anything that’s convincing us that Chelsea are close to signing anyone.

The focus so far has been on sales and sorting out our loans. But any fan who was hoping for a January like 2023 will already be well aware that’s not happening.

One link that is persisting despite an overall lack of action is that to Nice defender Jean Clair Todibo. The inability to get Benoit Badiashile or Wesley Fofana fit, plus Thiago Silva’s impending departure means a new centre back is something the club will certainly be thinking about.

Telefoot are claiming that we’re in the race, along with Napoli and Spurs, for the classy defender who looks set to stay at least until the summer.

After that, they look like they will be ready to sell. But will we be in a position to buy? A lot depends on these next few weeks.
