Napoli are getting closer to signing Lille striker Jonathan David despite AC Milan’s persistent interest in the Canadian striker in recent seasons.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Napoli have identified David as the replacement for Victor Osimhen who could leave the club during the summer transfer window.

Having looked at a number of targets, the Azzurri have started serious talks with Lille and the player’s entourage and are ready to make the move work.

Lille are actually requesting €50m for David but so far, Napoli have been unwilling to go above €35m along with bonuses linked to results. He is out of contract in 2025 so Lille will not be able to drive a very hard bargain.

He is said to be very keen on Napoli, having been sold on the project. They are also willing to pay him €3m per season on a five-year deal, but they are yet to discuss a release clause and the image rights which often cause complications in modern transfers.

David has been on Milan’s list of strikers for a very long time and is viewed as the more economically feasible option, as opposed to players like Joshua Zirkzee and Viktor Gyokeres.
