Napoli aren’t resigned to losing Piotr Zielinski for nothing and have reportedly lodged a proposal to prolong his expiring contract. The numbers are similar to Inter’s offer, but he turned it down, Corriere dello Sport informs.

The Partenopei tendered €5M wages and a low release clause, €20M, to convince him to stay. The figures are higher than his current salary and comparable to what he would earn if he switched sides.

Zielinksi appears closer to Inter than to Napoli, but the matter won’t be sealed until he puts pen to paper. The situation has forced the Azzurri to up their proposal. They plotted to reduce his wages before he almost moved to Saudi Arabia last summer.

The veteran hasn’t stood out during their challenging campaign. He has recorded three goals and two assists and has often provided lackluster performances, including the most recent one against Torino, where he was replaced at halftime.

Our Take on Zielinski, Napoli, and Inter

The Nerazzurri have let it know that they are confident but haven’t leaked that it’s a done deal already because they are wary of this potential turn of events. He already had a late change of heart last summer. It might be too late for the Scudetto holders for a bridge renewal, but at least the parties have resumed talking. A January departure, so the team can cash in a little, might not be totally out of the question.
