Chelsea are always looking for ways to improve their squad upon the start of a transfer window, but it seems will have to first offload some players to gain extra funds. The Blues could end up having to sell or loan out youngster Ian Maatsen before the January window ends.

Chelsea Negotiating Ian Maatsen Exit To Borussia Dortmund

Maatsen Informs Chelsea Of Exit Desire

Sky Sports’ Patrick Berger has reported that Ian Maatsen has informed Chelsea of his desire to move to Borussia Dortmund in the winter window and that he “only wants to go” to the Bundesliga club upon potentially leaving the Premier League side this season.

It is also added that the full-back/winger has already agreed terms with the German club and that everything about this will depend on the Blues. Berger further claims that the London giants are hoping to convince Dortmund to agree on adding a clause that obliges them to buy the Dutch player after the end of the current campaign.

The journalist states that “negotiations are ongoing” as both clubs try to reach a middle ground in potentially reaching an agreement for this transfer. Playing time for the wide-man has been limited with him also featuring out of position and his current contract expires next year. He was reported to be close to a move to Burnley last summer after Chelsea even accepted a transfer offer, but that ultimately did not transpire.

Are Chelsea Looking At Any Other Transfers?

Chelsea are reportedly aiming to sign some more young talents in the January transfer window and are reported to be in talks with Bundesliga club Wolfsburg for the signing of teenage striker David Odogu to improve their future core.

They have also been linked with Sporting CP defender Ousmane Diomande to potentially improve their backline too. But it seems that they might be forced to offload Maatsen in the January window as the 21-year-old is asking for regular playing time, which he hasn’t received under Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine coach had actually hailed him as “such a clever player” last year, but the youngster has only started a handful of games under him, which is why he is pushing to join the German club.
