Neil Warnock has come out of retirement to return to Huddersfield Town as they look to avoid relegation from the Championship.

The Terriers, who sit second bottom in the Championship, sacked boss Mark Fotheringham last week after he won just five of his 21 games in charge of the club.

Warnock, 74, last managed in 2021 when he was in charge of Middlesbrough, leaving the club in November 2021 before retiring from management in April 2022.

His return to the Yorkshire club comes 28 years after he guided the club to the First Division in 1995 by winning the Play-off Final where they beat Bristol Rovers 2-1.

On his return, Warnock said: “I’m really excited about this challenge!

My first spell at Huddersfield Town had everything; we went to Wembley twice, moved into the new stadium, and really built the club from nothing. It was a special time.

I’ve looked at the fixtures and we’ve got some fantastic games to come. I want to come back and put smiles on faces!”

Warnock’s first match of his second spell as boss comes on Saturday when his side host Birmingham City.
