Chelsea has been a club in upheaval like no other in recent times.

From a change in owner to a change in manager, medical staff and a slew of executives, there have been changes in personnel from top to bottom.

Marina Granovskaia and Petr Cech, the effective sporting directors of the old system, were among the first to go, and have yet to be replaced. The club muddled through this summer, but clearly more direction is needed in the scouting department.

Perhaps that explains the arrival of Kyle Macaulay, who joined as a recruitment analyst from Brighton in a package deal with Graham Potter.

The Guardian’s piece today on the search for a new sporting director claims that Macauley has made a “strong impression on staff at Chelsea.”

Let’s hope that’s a positive impression… The scouting we’ve done in recent years has been up and down to say the least, and some new insight on that front could make a huge difference.
