Lazio will be sure to have an eye on the free agent market this summer as the club seeks to sign off on bargain deals.

Among the impending free agents that have been linked with a possible move to Lazio is German and long-time Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng.

The former Bundesliga winner will become a free agent this summer as Bayern elected not to pursue a contract extension agreement with the defender.

However, Lazio may already be out of the running in the Boateng sweepstakes.

As noted by the Italian-based outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi, Boateng is looking to sign with a club that will be taking part in next season’s UEFA Champions League group stage.

Lazio failed to qualify for the Champions League group stage due to its sixth-place finish in the final Serie A table this past season. As a result, the Biancocelesti will instead feature in the UEFA Europa League next season.

Boateng is currently assessing all of his options amid his upcoming status as a free agent.

Lazio will now have to look elsewhere for defensive reinforcements.
