Paris Saint-Germain has thrown in the towel on its aspirations of keeping Kylian Mbappe at the club, according to a report from ESPN‘s Julien Laurens.

As recently as last week, PSG was “confident” that Mbappe would opt to snub Real Madrid in order to stay with the reigning Ligue 1 champions. But now, Mbappe is on the verge of completing a free transfer move to Los Blancos.

As noted by Laurens, PSG had placed on the table for Mbappe a “huge deal,” made a promise to him that it would roll out a “better squad” for next season, offered to make him the team’s new captain, and also would allow him to own 100 percent of his own image rights.

PSG had engaged in contract extension talks with Mbappe for quite some time, but in the end, he has reportedly decided to put an end to his career with the Ligue 1 powerhouse.

For now, Mbappe’s final match at PSG is set to come on Ligue 1 matchday 38 with a home fixture against Metz.
