Newcastle United left-back Dan Burn has offered a candid response regarding his England status.

Burn was mentioned by England boss Gareth Southgate when asked about the make up of his squad.

Despite having no fit left-backs, Southgate has not given Burn a chance to impress.

Burn told Chronicle Live: "I am focused on Newcastle. But I feel that I am at a level where I could be playing for England. The England manager comes to all the games and I am not getting picked though.

"It's obviously something he does not like or he does not fancy. But I am happy playing for Newcastle United and I am going to keep putting performances in."

He added: "I understand that there are levels to play for England. We've got some very good left-backs. We have Luke Shaw and Ben Chilwell who technically I feel I am nowhere near.

"But what I bring is something to the team. At the end of the day, I am playing for Newcastle so I must be doing something right. It is a question you will have to ask Gareth."
