Antony continues to receive stick across the media for his shameless antics following Manchester United’s FA Cup semi-final win.

Despite leading Coventry City 3-0 in the 71st minute of the tie, the Red Devils were taken to penalties after a second-half capitulation saw them concede three goals.

The shootout came after Mark Robins’ side scored what they believed to be an emphatic winning goal in the dying embers of extra-time before VAR intervened with a lengthy check to then controversially chalk it off.

United scored four penalties to Coventry’s two, therefore booking their spot in what forms a second successive Manchester derby FA Cup final – and Antony was seemingly more pleased than any of his teammates.

Immediately after Rasmus Hojlund’s tie-winning finish, the Brazilian ran towards the United end to celebrate, not before turning back towards the Coventry squad and cupping his ears – an action that’s seen him berated by pundits, former players and even his own fans.

Neal Maupay reacted to the viral clip on X (Twitter) this morning, writing: “Just for the record, not even I would do this”.

Perform first, wind-up the opposition second

In truth, nobody would’ve even given it a second thought had it come from an in-form player who actually contributed something to the game. Not only did Antony blank yet again, the £86 million winger didn’t even step up to take a penalty in the decisive shootout.

Goading Championship players, many of whom outperformed him on the day, is just tone-deaf.
