Reports suggest Nottingham Forest have reached a deal with Manchester United to sign Dean Henderson on loan next season.
The academy graduate sat on the bench as back-up goalkeeper to David de Gea last season, and it will be reflected upon as a wasted year for the 25-year-old as he got very little game time. It didn’t help that we didn’t have a run in one of the domestic cups – to keep fringe players like Henderson happy – but now, at the very least, we must focus on his development and ensure his value rises in the market.
According to The Athletic, Manchester United and Nottingham Forest have agreed a deal for Henderson to move on a season-long loan.
The shot-stopper has yet to complete a medical and it is understood that that Forest will pay his full salary over the course of the campaign.
At Forest, Henderson will get regular first team football in the Premier League again, which is not a risk for the newly promoted side after he impressed during a previous stint in the top-flight at Sheffield United.
A good run could even see him in contention for a place in the England squad for the World Cup later this year.
Ultimately, it sounds like United are still undecided on Henderson’s potential when it comes to being first choice at Old Trafford.
Ten Hag will watch him closely if he joins Forest.
On top of that, some pundits have questioned whether David de Gea will be the long-term option between the sticks. The Spaniard could easily run into the same problems he has with Luis Enrique under Ten Hag.
