Nuno Espirito Santo: Tottenham must 'solve' Harry Kane issue internally

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Nuno Espirito Santo only accepted the job this offseason but has found himself the public face of the situation involving wantaway striker and England captain Harry Kane, who could be facing a significant fine after failing to show up for training and COVID-19 testing amid his reported desire to join reigning Premier League champions Manchester City.

Nuno told reporters following Wednesday's 2-2 friendly draw versus Chelsea that Tottenham must "solve the situation internally" but admitted he hasn't yet spoken with the three-time Premier League Golden Boot winner about his future.

"The answer I will give you is I expect to speak with Harry soon, and I haven't had the chance yet," Nuno said. "Anything in relation to Harry is internal so first of all we have to first of all solve the problems ourselves and then I will speak with you."

Kane recently turned 28 years old and is signed for three more seasons on a £200,000-a-week deal. Tottenham reportedly rejected an offer from City worth £100 million for Kane and instead value him at somewhere around £150 million. Kane, meanwhile, allegedly thinks he had a so-called "gentleman’s agreement" with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to leave this summer so he could pursue silverware:

As Mark Ogden of ESPN reported earlier on Wednesday, City are close to acquiring Aston Villa star midfielder Jack Grealish for a fee worth £100 million. That signing could take City out of the running for Kane's services, but he's also been linked with Manchester United and Chelsea in rumors.
