Manchester City are keen to retain the services of Erling Haaland. That will come as news to no one. Of course, the world champions would like to retain the premier striker in world football. He has taken to life at the Etihad like a duck to water and has been a key part of their success since arriving at the club.

Reports from Spain have indicated that Real Madrid are keen to sign Erling Haaland. Spanish publication AS has previously reported that Haaland may be a summer transfer target for the Spanish giants. Given his stature in the game, it is only natural that Haaland will be linked with a club like Real Madrid. But as it stands there is no indication that City’s number 9 is keen to leave Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola was asked if he wanted Manchester City to tie down Haaland on a fresh contract extension. The City manager gave a blunt reply to the question. He said: “What do you think? That we don’t want Erling (Haaland) to stay here for one decade?! Honestly… So, we want him! Yes, or yes, for a long, long time at this club, for a long time. We are in love with him, we want him. But, I don’t know!”

It would be a dream for Manchester City fans if Erling Haaland stayed at the club for a similar length of time as club legends David Silva and Sergio Aguero. The pair both stayed at the club for the best part of a decade forging illustrious careers with the club before their departure. Pep Guardiola and Manchester City will be hoping Erling Haaland can follow in their footsteps.

City’s number 9 will be in action tonight against Brentford. He could potentially start the game as Pep Guardiola revealed during his pre game press conference.
