Gonzalo Escalante has officially left Lazio to join the newly promoted Cremonese on a loan deal with a buy option attached.

The 29-year-old Argentinian midfielder returned to Rome last month after his six-month loan spell with Spanish side Alaves drew to an end. Escalante was not included in Maurizio Sarri’s project in Rome, so the club immediately looked for a new home for the player this summer.

As announced today, Escalante has now left Lazio to join Cremonese on a season-long loan deal with a buy option attached. Media reports suggest that this option is set at around €3-4 million.

The 29-year-old Escalante joined the Biancocelesti on a free transfer in September 2020 after his contract expired with Eibar. He made 31 appearances for the Roman club under both Simone Inzaghi and Maurizio Sarri, providing one assist in that time but struggling to particularly convince. He’ll be hoping to re-find his form with the newly promoted side this season.
