Omonia vs. Manchester United preview, predicted lineups

On Thursday, Manchester United will look to bounce back from a 6-3 derby day defeat to rivals Manchester City when it faces Cypriot side Omonia FC in Group E of the UEFA Europa League.

Erik ten Hag’s side was humiliated at the Etihad on Sunday, with Erling Haaland and Phil Foden both scoring hat tricks for Man City. The Red Devils' European campaign has been hit and miss so far, losing 1-0 to Real Sociedad at Old Trafford and beating Moldovan club FC Sheriff 2-0 away from home.

Omonia, under the management of former Celtic boss Neil Lennon, sits in fourth in the Cypriot First Division after five games. Former Celtic players Gary Hooper, Adam Matthews and ex-Manchester City youth product Brandon Barker are among those who have joined Lennon in Cyprus.

It is likely that United will be missing Harry Maguire and Raphaël Varane for the fixture, with both suffering injuries. Backup goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka is also doubtful after suffering an injury while on international duty with Slovakia, per Manchester United's website

Anthony Martial returned to action over the weekend against Man City, scoring two goals despite starting on the substitutes bench. It is likely the Frenchman may start so he regains fitness and sharpness.

It is unknown whether Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo will start, with sources stating the Portuguese international may leave Old Trafford as soon as January, per ESPN.

Omonia midfielder Moreto Cassama is doubtful for the home side. The 24-year-old midfielder suffered an injury against Real Sociedad in the club's previous Europa League fixture.

Besides Cassama, it is likely that the rest of Lennon’s squad will be available for selection ahead of one of the club's biggest fixtures in their history.

Omonia predicted starting lineup: Fabiano, Nemanja Miletic, Hector Yuste, Nikolas Panagiotou, Adams Matthews, Charalambos Charalampous, Fotis Papoulis, Mix Diskerud, Jans Lecjaks, Karim Ansarifard and Bruno Felipe.

Manchester United predicted starting lineup: David De Gea, Diogo Dalot, Victor Lindelof, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Antony, Bruno Fernandes, Anthony Elanga and Anthony Martial.
