It is far from certain who will be the next head coach of AC Milan, yet the management are continuing to work on a deal for the man they believe should be the next centre-forward regardless.

As Calciomercato.com recall, in Bologna’s win against Roma Zirkzee scored goal number 11 and got assist number five in the league, and it was perhaps his most important of the season so far given that a seven-point gap between the clubs has been opened up.

Many top European clubs are watching the growth of the Dutch forward, above all Milan who have already had several direct contacts with his entourage, but also Juventus and Arsenal too.

It is certainly a difficult moment for Milan who are dealing with a depressed atmosphere after having seen Inter celebrate the Scudetto in the derby a few days after the poor performance in the Europa League against Roma.

These are two defeats that have confirmed the fate of Stefano Pioli, who is now destined to be sacked, but they have not changed the intentions on Zirkzee one iota. The 22-year-old is the main target regardless of who arrives as the head coach.

The management have increased the pressure on Zirkzee who did not appear indifferent to their advances, but it will be ‘a real chess game’ to try and get him. Milan have already made their move and at present the feeling is that they are slightly ahead of the competition.

Geoffrey Moncada and co. are boosted by another fact: Zirkzee’s priority is to play in Serie A next season. Now the Diavolo are waiting for the play of Bayern Munich who will have to decide whether or not to use their €40m buy-back.
