Premier League restart pushed back to June 26?

Earlier this month, Paul MacInnes and David Hytner of The Guardian reported that the English Premier League season suspended in March due to the coronavirus pandemic may not restart until at least June 19 due to concerns had among players and managers about competing during the uncontrolled virus outbreak.

That date may be moved once again.

Per Sky Sports News, multiple clubs from the country's top-flight are campaigning for the league's penciled-in resumption date to be pushed to June 26 to further prepare squads for matches and ensure footballers are at full fitness for the final 9-10 games of the campaign.

Meetings are set for Thursday regarding the completion of the season and also if games will be played at neutral sites or home stadiums. West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner David Jamieson has hit out at proposals involving clubs playing games at home venues because of fears regarding large gatherings potentially spreading the coronavirus and also causing problems for local police.

Other matters, such as the handling of promotion and relegation if the season is shortened, will also be discussed on Thursday.

Last week, former Premier League and England footballer and current pundit Jamie Redknapp warned some Premier League players could temporarily quit their clubs rather than play during the pandemic after Watford captain Troy Deeney and Chelsea midfielder and France international N'Golo Kante elected to skip training sessions.
