Liverpool are reportedly looking to bolster their backline this summer. The Reds are preparing for their first transfer window of the post-Jurgen Klopp era.

Arne Slot To Start Transfer Planning With Liverpool

A Key Transfer Window

The end of the 2023/24 season marks a new era for Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp leaves Anfield after nine years. The German manager has been closely involved in the club’s transfer planning since the start, with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Alisson Becker being among his key signings.

Feyenoord boss Arne Slot is set to replace Klopp as Liverpool’s new manager this summer. However, the Reds are not planning to wait until the end of the season to discuss their main targets for the upcoming transfer window.

Latest Transfer Updates From Anfield

Reports about Salah’s possible departure have intensified in recent weeks as the Egyptian superstar is only a few weeks away from entering the final year of his current contract. However, a report from the Athletic journalist David Ornstein claims the Reds “fully expect” to have the attacker for at least another season.

Contract talks with Salah remain a key transfer topic for Liverpool, but it’s not something for Slot to worry about this summer. Instead, the new manager is set to start the squad planning for the next season by signing a new defender.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the centre-back position is one of the club’s main priorities for the summer transfer window. Slot is expected to discuss his favourite transfer targets with the Reds in the next few weeks.

Which Centre-Backs Are Linked With Liverpool?

Jarrel Quansah has enjoyed a fantastic breakthrough season in Klopp’s final campaign at Anfield. However, Joel Matip’s expected departure as a free agent leaves room for a new centre-back to arrive this summer.

Lille’s Leny Yoro has emerged as a potential target for Liverpool, but he’s also on the list of many other European sides, including Manchester United and Real Madrid. Another in-demand target is Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo, who reportedly rejected an offer from the Reds in 2019. Rumours surfaced about the club’s interest in signing Bayer Leverkusen’s versatile defender Piero Hincapie in January. However, it’s not clear whether the German champions would allow his exit ahead of the next season.
