Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies was proud to see his former team-mate Joshua Zirkzee earn a dream move to Manchester United this summer.

On Monday, Joshua Zirkzee signed a five-year deal at Manchester United with the option of a further year.

Manchester United paid Serie A outfit Bologna £36.5m for the Netherlands international, who stands at 6ft 4ins. While this fee is slightly higher than Zirkzee’s release clause, it allows the Reds to spread the payments out throughout three years.

In turn, this should give United more legroom to operate in the transfer market this summer as we’re seeing with the imminent arrival of Lille defender Leny Yoro.

The former Bayern Munich forward became Erik ten Hag’s first major signing of the summer and the first arrival under new sporting director Dan Ashworth.

Zirkzee, 23, scored 12 goals and provided seven assists as Bologna qualified for the Champions League last season. His impressive form led to the biggest football club in the world signing him, so now he will want to prove a point to those who didn’t give him more chances at Bayern Munich.

The Dutch forward, who stands like a target man but with the feet of a playmaker, clearly made some friends at Bayern. Real Madrid-linked Alphonso Davies has shared an Instagram story congratulating his former team-mate on his big summer move to Old Trafford.

Davies shared a picture of Zirkzee in his United gear, writing: “Proud of you g @zirkzee”

Zirkzee is an outstanding talent

Speaking about Zirkzee’s transfer to United, Ashworth said (via The Guardian): “Securing a forward to enhance our already strong group of attacking players was a key aim for this summer. We are delighted that we’ve managed to sign a player of Joshua’s calibre this early in the transfer window.”

It’s like we are seeing a new United with the club landing primary targets early in the transfer window. Almost too good be to true after 18-years of mismanagement from the Glazers.

Ashworth added: “Joshua is an outstanding talent who is ready to make an impact for Manchester United. His ability and desire to grow into a world-class player means that he will be a great addition to the squad that we are building for the exciting season ahead and beyond.

“Having already achieved a significant amount in his career, we will provide Joshua with the perfect platform to reach the next level under the guidance and support of Erik ten Hag and the coaching staff. We look forward to seeing Joshua thrive at Old Trafford over the coming years.”
