Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum’s time in the French capital hasn’t gone as planned. The Netherlands international hasn’t solidified himself as an undisputed starter; as a result, he could be considering his options this summer.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Atlético de Madrid is one of the clubs closely monitoring the situation and if Wijnaldum decides to bolt despite having two more years on his contract.

Furthermore, Atlético needs to reinforce the midfield after the foreseeable departure of Héctor Herrera, who will be departing the Spanish club for MLS’ Houston Dynamo when the season ends in June.

The reigning La Liga champions like Wijnaldum but are aware of the hurdles, so it will not be easy to get the services. The 31-year-old has plenty of experience in Europe, so there will be other candidates; then there’s also his salary, and PSG does not usually sell cheap.

Aside from the La Liga side, Premier League clubs West Ham, Aston Villa, and Newcastle are also rumored to be in on the former Liverpool midfielder.
