On Friday, Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappé announced that he’ll be leaving the club after this season, with his contract expiring next month. However, it’s an announcement that that capital club didn’t see coming.

In a video that spanned over three minutes, the 25-year-old shared his departure plans. He expressed gratitude, acknowledged his mistakes, professed his love for the club, and revealed his departure for a new challenge.

While there’s been criticism of the decision to announce this news in this manner, PSG couldn’t do much because they had no knowledge of the player opting to publish this video.

L’Equipe reports that PSG wasn’t informed about Mbappé’s video released this Friday. Worse, they discovered it “at the same time as everyone else.”

Although he didn’t announce where he’s playing next season, it’s an open secret that the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner will be joining Real Madrid. Once the UEFA Champions League final is over, the Frenchman will likely be announced as the club’s newest signing.

Meanwhile, PSG will begin searching for a way to replace their soon-to-be former star player.
