PSG were considered a potential threat to Juventus in the race to appoint Thiago Motta since he has deep ties with the French powerhouse. While their stunning and unlucky Champions League elimination could have further fueled the buzz, owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi nipped the problem in the bud in his post-game remarks. He emphatically confirmed Luis Enrique at the helm (via Corriere dello Sport).

He angrily answered to a reporter who asked him about the coach.

“Are you serious with this question? Honestly, do you know about and understand football a little? We’re building a long-term project with the youngest team in Europe. Our future will be bright, and we’ll forge ahead.”

After spending the final six years of his career at PSG, Motta got his start on the bench with their U-19 team. He was then quickly appointed by Genoa, where he didn’t work out. Instead, things have gone much better for him at Spezia and especially Bologna.

The coach might have given his word to the Bianconeri. However, recent reports suggest he hasn’t formally relayed his decision to the Rossoblù higher-ups yet, Sky informs (via Informazione).

Our Take on Motta, Juventus, and PSG

He’ll probably wind up there eventually in the future, but Luis Enrique has been on their bench for just a year. The Old Lady’s hierarchy might be sure of their chances since they are not widening their coaching search, but they have been certain in other cases, too, and were proven wrong. It would make sense for him to stay put.
