Former MLS star Herculez Gomez spoke to ESPN about his fellow countryman Weston McKennie amid recent Spurs links.

The American midfielder has been linked with Tottenham for quite some time. The speculation began in January and continued into the summer, with reports claiming Fabio Paratici was pushing for a move for the American. It was claimed that a fee of around £34 million would have sufficed to sign him then, but Juventus decided to keep their man in the end after new signing Paul Pogba suffered a serious injury.

The Italian sporting director has raided the Italian league for a number of signings. He has already signed former Juventus misfits Cristian Romero, Dejan Kulusevski, and Rodrigo Bentancur and is now linked with Weston McKennie.

And Gomez has claimed that he can see the midfielder join Tottenham. He said:

“Weston McKennie, Antonio Conte has been wanting McKennie for quite some time and guess what? Juventus want to sell him and they need those funds.

“They’re going to lose money so they need to make that up, and Weston McKennie does have some market value right now. With his attribute of scoring goals, he’s such a weapon on set-pieces.

The Premier League loves this type of player, McKennie is made for the Premier League and I can see this happening.”

JuventusNews24 had reported last week that Paratici is a big admirer of the American and ‘could make a move’ for him in January. He personally scouted him at Schalke before signing him for Juventus.

The transfer is one of those that makes sense since Juventus are looking to sell the player and Spurs could use some depth in their midfield.

With Tottenham lurking in the background, the next few months will be critical in determining the fate of the 24-year-old midfielder.
