Tottenham Hotspur attacker Son Heung-min has been in impressive form this season.

The South Korean international had an underwhelming campaign last season but he seems to have bounced back strongly this year.

The 31-year-old has eight goals and an assist in 10 Premier League matches so far and he will hope to help Spurs return to the UEFA Champions League this season.

ESPN Pundit Janusz Michalik has now suggested that the South Korean international has benefited from the departure of Harry Kane.

“I think that’s a massive question for Spurs, because, here we are, we’ll talk about it maybe a little later too, are they better or worse [without] Harry Kane? But think about it. In the past, when one was off, there was one scoring consistently,” he told ESPN.

“Let’s not forget Heung-min Son in his last season. Now, it’s Heung-min Son. He’s benefitted from the fact that Harry Kane’s left. But if he’s not there, then I’d have a major question about Spurs.”

The England international left Tottenham earlier this summer for Bayern Munich and Son has clearly improved since his departure.

Perhaps the added responsibility and the switch to the role of a centre forward has helped the 31-year-old get back to his best.

With Kane at the club, the 31-year-old’s role was mostly that of a winger or a second striker.

The 31-year-old is now the first-choice centre-forward at Tottenham and he is clearly thriving in that role. In addition to that, Ange Postecoglou’s free-flowing football has clearly played a part in his upturn of form as well.

It remains to be seen whether Son and Tottenham can sustain their current run of form and challenge for the league title this season.

Whatever the reason behind Son’s upturn in form, the Tottenham fans will certainly be delighted to see a key player back to his best. His form will be crucial to their hopes of doing well this season.
