The Colorado Rapids brought U.S. men's national team goalkeeper Zack Steffen back to MLS on a three-year contract.

The deal announced Thursday runs through 2026 and includes a club option for an additional year.

"Zack is an elite-level goalkeeper with a wealth of experience internationally and in MLS. His exceptional skills, experience, and proven track record make him a valuable addition to our roster," said Colorado Rapids president Padraig Smith. "His character and mentality will greatly benefit our team. We're thrilled to bolster our backline with his signing and look forward to welcoming him to Colorado."

Steffen, 28, previously played in MLS with the Columbus Crew, posting 23 clean sheets in 76 starts from 2017-19.

The Rapids acquired his discovery rights from the New England Revolution for $50,000 in general allocation money.

"We are incredibly happy to bring Zack to the club," Rapids head coach Chris Armas said. "He is a top player with big experiences, and we know he will add so much to our group. His quality, leadership and winning mentality will help us for years to come."

Steffen joined Manchester City of England's Premier League in 2019 and recorded eight clean sheets across 21 appearances. He also had loan stints at Fortuna Dusseldorf (2019-20) and Middlesbrough (2022-23).

Internationally, Steffen has recorded 10 clean sheets in 29 caps with the USMNT.

The Rapids declined William Yarbrough's option after the 2023 season, leaving Marko Ilic as the only goalkeeper on the roster before signing Steffen.
