Report: Alex Morgan to join Tottenham of Women's Super League on short-term deal

The FA Women's Super League has added some immense talent this summer via the form of United States Women's National Team players, and they only continued to add more talent on Friday.

According to The Athletic's Meg Linehan and Paul Tenorio, USWNT and Orlando Pride star Alex Morgan is joining Tottenham Hotspur on a short-term contract running through the end of the year.

Morgan becomes the fifth higher-profile player from the USWNT to head to England. Samantha Mewis and Rose Lavelle joined Manchester City while Tobin Heath and Christen Press signed with Manchester United.

Linehan and Tenorio note that the moves stem from motivation to play regularly amid the United States' struggle with the coronavirus pandemic and the WSL's "growing ambition."

Morgan will join two of her Pride teammates on loan with the Spurs — Shelina Zadorsky and Alanna Kennedy — who joined the club in August. The relationship between the Pride and Spurs only continues to grow as Heather Cowen, who is the Spurs' head of women's football, worked with Pride head coach Marc Skinner at Birmingham City, Linehan and Tenorio add.

With NWSL teams scheduled to play just four games in the Fall Series, it's no surprise that the more talented players are seeking better competition and conditioning overseas.

Morgan was expected to make her Pride return at some point during the four-game series, but that will now have to wait. The 31-year-old hasn't played for Orlando since last August due to a patella stress reaction in her right knee. She also missed time for the club as she was pregnant and gave birth to her daughter in May.
