Iker Casillas and Carles Puyol were only JOKING, according to reports in Spain.

Social media was sent into a frenzy on Sunday afternoon after Real Madrid legend Casillas took to Twitter to come out as gay.

That frenzy intensified after former international teammate Carles Puyol insinuated that the pair were in a relationship together.

Both players received an outpour of support from across the football community and the wider world as a whole.

Unfortunately, it appears as though they were just taking the mick.

If true, it’s seriously backwards for them to be joking about such a topic in front of the eyes of the world.

Gay players within the sport will have drawn such strength from Casillas ‘coming out’ and it was all for a joke.

There has already been a furious backlash on Twitter against the pair, which is absolutely no surprise.

If they are indeed joking about this topic, they ought to be ashamed of themselves.
