Report: Neutral venues won't save Premier League clubs from relegation

The latest proposal for the completion of the 2019-20 Premier League season involves clubs playing the remainder of 9- or 10-match schedules at neutral sites. This plan will not save teams that finish at the bottom of the league table from relegation.

On Monday, Miguel Delaney of The Independent reported there is "no chance" relegation will be postponed or canceled in any way despite the coronavirus pandemic if the campaign is finished in full beginning on June 12.

As things stand on May 4, Norwich City, Aston Villa, and Bournemouth would all go down to the Championship. Watford, West Ham, and Brighton & Hove Albion will also be part of an EPL relegation battle if play resumes.

Liverpool are the uncrowned champions of the English top-flight, as they hold a commanding 25-point lead over Manchester City atop the table.

Per Matt Maher of Express & Star, The Villa Supporters’ Trust has written the club to request games don't occur until fans can safely attend matches. It's likely sporting events in England will occur behind closed doors and without fans at venues because of the pandemic.

The Dutch Eredivisie and French football competitions prematurely ended their seasons in different ways. Ajax were denied the Eredivisie title when officials voided the season. While Paris Saint-Germain were crowned champions of France's Ligue 1, Amiens have appealed their relegation to Ligue 2.

Per BBC Sport, the club released the following statement on the matter:

“Amiens is launching a petition to demand justice for this very consequential decision which goes against sporting fair play."
