Chelsea will reportedly face an uphill battle if they do end up qualifying for Europe this season by doing well in their final three games coming up.

The Blues are in a battle with Manchester United, Newcastle, United, and Tottenham to try and get a place in the Europa League for next season and if failing that, the Europa Conference League.

These are of course UEFA cup competitions, and they are under their own set of rules and regulations, including Financial Fair Play.

This is different to the Premier League’s rules and regulations, named as Profit and Sustainability Rules, which are not as strict as UEFA’s rules. So not only are Chelsea battling to stay in line with PSR rules at the moment, if they make Europe, they will now be facing more issues by battling to stay in line with their regulations for FFP.

That is according to a report out just now by The Times, who say Chelsea are likely to face an uphill battle to comply with UEFA’s financial rules if they qualify for Europe next season.

So it’s a bit of a catch-22 for manager Mauricio Pochettino who is under pressure to qualify for Europe this season and if he doesn’t, then his position as Blues boss will become vulnerable.

It’s a problem but at the same time, Chelsea qualifying for Europe will also bring in more revenue by just qualifying, and then for advancing in the competition next season, should they do so. So I am assuming that the club will know all of this and will be weighing up the pros and the cons.

But I can guarantee you that they will desperately be wanting to qualify for Europe this season regardless of anything else, as will the players, as will the manager.
