Reports: Tottenham close to signing Antonio Conte after dismissal of Nuno Espirito Santo

Tottenham Hotspur were thrashed by Manchester United 3-0 over the weekend and responded to that result by parting ways with head coach Nuno Espirito Santo and his staff on Monday.

It appears Tottenham already have a replacement in mind.

Sky Sports and other outlets report Antonio Conte, who guided Chelsea to the 2016-17 Premier League title, is "in advanced talks" to take over as new Tottenham boss. Conte, who also has four Serie A titles on his resume, has been available since he left Inter Milan "by mutual consent" in May after Inter won the Serie A crown for the first time in 11 years.

Conte had been linked with Tottenham as a potential replacement for Jose Mourinho, who was fired in April and before speculation arose that star striker and England captain Harry Kane wanted to complete a big-money move to Manchester City. Tottenham refused to sell Kane before the summer transfer window closed at the end of August but have since dropped to eighth in the league table, 10 points off leaders Chelsea.

Nuno held the Tottenham job for a total of 17 games across all competitions.

Tottenham host Vitesse Arnhem in a Europa Conference League matchup on Thursday. It's believed Conte could be announced as the club's new manager at some point this week and before that contest.

Tottenham play at Everton in a league match this coming Sunday.
