Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire have overseen resurgent campaigns for Manchester United this season, but it may not be enough to guarantee their long-term future at the club.

The duo were heavily linked with Old Trafford exits last summer after being the subjects of strong interest from West Ham United, with reports suggesting that a £60 million combined bid was sent the Red Devils’ way to test their resolve last August.

It was, however, rejected by United. They were open to selling Maguire, having accepted his respective bid, but believed they could recoup a higher fee – closer to £45m – for McTominay.

Those valuations will perhaps increase by the end of the season after the impact both players have had on the Reds’ affairs. Maguire has become an integral starter under Erik ten Hag – albeit due to injuries – and has rarely put a foot wrong despite being part of an ever-changing backline.

On the other hand, the Scotland international has had to accept a more reduced role than he was granted in Ten Hag’s maiden campaign. He started frequently while Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo were sidelined before dropping to the bench for eight straight Premier League matches.

His contributions have proven vital, whether as a starter or a substitute; McTominay has notched nine goals and three assists in all competitions thus far, outscoring all of the attackers except prolific frontman Rasmus Hojlund. In the league, he has won seven points when scoring off the bench.

Alas, the pair’s best efforts could now bode well for the club in terms of driving up their asking prices. As per iSport , Sir Jim Ratcliffe is keen to kick off the summer with as high a transfer budget as possible and could therefore sacrifice McTominay and Maguire in the hopes West Ham – or anyone else – reignites their interest.
