Inter Milan and AC Milan are considering where they will play their home matches with the San Siro in use during the 2026 Olympics.

Today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, report that the Nerazzurri could temporarily play at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia ahead of the winter games.

The San Siro has been a hot topic in recent weeks.

Milan Mayor Beppe Sala is hoping to convince Inter and Milan to stay in the stadium.

The Mayor is pushing for plans to renovate the iconic stadium so that it can meet the clubs’ needs.

The Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri had previously spent years trying to move forward with plans to demolish the San Siro and build a new stadium in its place.

And, with bureaucratic roadblocks making those plans impossible, the clubs are pursuing alternative plans.

The Nerazzurri have been working on plans in the commune of Rozzano. And the Rossoneri are working to build a stadium in San Donato.

Inter & AC Milan Could Play In Reggio Emilia During 2026 Opening Ceremonies

So there is significant uncertainty regarding Inter and Milan’s future at the San Siro.

But one way or the other, the two clubs will continue to play at the iconic stadium for a few more years at least.

And there is one notable issue in this respect on the horizon.

Milan-Cortina will host the 2026 winter Olympic Games. As part of the games, the San Siro will be the venue for the opening ceremony.

That ceremony will take place on February 6th, 2026.

Moreover, the IOC will require that the San Siro be left free for three weeks prior to that date for preparations.

Therefore, Inter and Milan will have to play their matches elsewhere.

The two clubs will be unable to use the San Siro for one Serie A match each. Additionally, should the teams be in European competition, they will have to play two matches away from the San Siro.

Inter and Milan are considering their options for where they will play during this period.

And according to Tuttosport, the clubs are leaning towards the city of Reggio Emilia.

However, the clubs have not yet made an official decision.
