According to multiple sources, Roma have made an enquiry to Atletico Madrid over former Leicester City defender Caglar Soyuncu, however, convincing Diego Simeone’s side to let the Turkish international leave on loan will not be a simple task.

Soyuncu joined Atleti on a free transfer in the summer, having left Leicester upon the expiry of his contract following the Foxes’ relegation from the Premier League at the end of 2022-23.

Since then, he has not been a regular first team starter at the Metropolitano Stadium. In fact, he has only registered six LaLiga appearances, two in the Champions League and one in the Copa Del Rey.

Though Soyuncu is surplus to requirements with Atletico, a loan move to Roma may not be particularly straightforward, as Premier League teams such as Fulham have reportedly expressed an interest in signing him permanently.

Gianluca Di Marzio details that Fulham have made an offer in the region of €20m.

Roma’s hope is that Soyuncu will still be an Atletico player heading into the final week of the January transfer window, at which rate a loan move until the end of the season could become a more realistic outcome.
