Roma have been offered free agent Jerome Boateng, but they are unlikely to put him under contract and will probably wait until January for a reinforcement, and Eric Dier is high on their wish list. On top of their injury woes, the Giallorossi will not have Evan N’Dicka for a while due to AFCON 2024.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Tuttomercatoweb), the Giallorossi are focusing on three names in particular. Other than the Spurs defender, they are interested in Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah and RB Salzburg’s Oumar Solet, who’s been on their radar for a few years.

Roma might find it easier to acquire Dier out of the trio. His contract expires in June, and he has completely fallen out of favor this season. He has yet to log a single minute and has made the bench just three times. He already worked with José Mourinho in the past.

Chalobah is expected to leave Chelsea for similar reasons, but he’s in the crosshairs of a few top clubs. According to Corriere dello Sport , Diego Llorente will return from his thigh injury versus Genoa. Instead, Chris Smalling has yet to begin ramping up in practice due to a lingering tendon issue.

Our Take on Roma and Dier

Any warm body would help given the constant crisis. They need a center-back who’d be at ease in multiple positions of a three-man defense and doesn’t necessitate too much time to fit in.
