Reports are growing rapidly that Roma have asked Paris Saint-Germain to interrupt the Renato Sanches loan deal early, while Leonardo Bonucci is also dropped.

There were already suggestions over the last couple of days that the approach had been made, and the Portugal international dropped his own hint too when removing all mention of Roma from his social media accounts.

He even replaced his profile picture – himself in a Giallorossi jersey – with a black circle.

Releasing Renato Sanches from his loan would free Roma of his heavy salary for six months and make sure they avoid any risk of activating their obligation to buy at the end of the season.

At the same time, it was reported by multiple sources today that Roma had also decided to abandon plans to sign Bonucci on loan from Union Berlin, via Juventus.

Limited by Financial Fair Play parameters, the club has to focus on reinforcing the defence, where Chris Smalling is injured and Evan Ndicka will be called away for the Africa Cup of Nations next month.

By releasing Renato Sanches, they can reinvest some of those funds in finding a new centre-back.
