Roma will officialize their Europa League list on Tuesday, but they have already sent it to UEFA, and it doesn’t comprise Rasmus Kristensen and Sardar Azmoun. They weren’t left out exclusively for numerical reasons, but due to Financial Fair Play restrictions, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.
Per their settlement agreement, the value of their squad must be equal or inferior relative to last season. How much a player is worth is determined by four factors: wages, amortization on the balance sheets, commissions to his agents, and bonuses tied to his performances. If there are modifications, as usual after the transfer market, it’s possible to keep out only newcomers.
Roma de facto had to pick between Romelu Lukaku, who has a significant cost, and Kristensen and Azmoun to make the numbers work. They had to do the same last January when they couldn’t insert Ola Solbakken. Tammy Abraham and Marash Kumbulla aren’t present either. However, that doesn’t affect the calculations. They won’t return from their ACL tears before January.
The Giallorossi decided to submit a roster with a high value also to have more leeway next season, the outlet relays.

It’s a no-brainer as, by choice or happenstance, they have two more options on the right: Zeki Celik and Rick Karsdorp. Plus, they are sufficiently deep up front.
