Roma star Romelu Lukaku chuckled when asked if he wanted to impress in England and pointed the interviewer elsewhere, quipping ‘ask Chelsea!’.

The 30-year-old striker put in a good shift for Belgium in their friendly with the Three Lions at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday evening, providing the assist for Youri Tielemans’ second goal. Whilst he failed to get on the scoresheet, it was still a good showing for the Roma man.

Lukaku has done well on loan with Roma this season but will return to Chelsea in the summer, with his deal not containing a buy option or obligation to buy clause. The Giallorossi are keen to retain the 30-year-old and are set to open a new round of negotiations closer to the summer.

Lukaku was interviewed by Sky Sports UK after Belgium’s 2-2 friendly draw with England, where he was asked about the match.

“That’s football at the end of the day. It’s not over until the referee blows the final whistle, but we have to continue and see progress, and we had an okay performance today.”

He was then asked if his strong performance was the result of his desire to want to impress when returning to England, prompting an immediate smile and chuckle from the striker.

“I don’t know, you’ll have to ask Chelsea about it!”
