Roma have been linked to a new coach basically every day in the past couple of weeks, but Claudio Ranieri stated that the choice had already been made and that the owner would announce it when he saw fit talking to La Repubblica.

The latest candidate to emerge and then crash and burn was Maurizio Sarri. Earlier in the week, Nuno Espirito Santos, who’s having a great deal of success at Nottingham Forest, and Adolf Hutter, who’s helming Monaco, were rumored after Jurgen Klopp’s agent liquidated the chatter about his client.

According to the publication, Massimiliano Allegri was never contacted by the hierarchy, and Cesc Fabregas and Vincenzo Italiano will stay at Como and Bologna respectively. Gian Piero Gasperini continues to be in the mix, even though Ranieri had crossed him out publicly. However, he’s negotiating a new contract with Atalanta.

The latest additions to the shortlist are Ernesto Valverde and Vincenzo Montella. The current Giallorossi boss was pictured handing a piece of paper to the colleague at the end of the clash between the two sides in the Europa League. The Turkey boss has been attached to the opening on a few different occasions and has never been outright denied, like most of the other names.

Our Take on the Next Roma Coach

Kudos to them if they have really decided already and have been able to avoid leaks so far, but it’s possible they are still waiting for some dominoes to take shape. They won’t be a premiere destination without the Champions League. There’d be some sort of continuity with the Ranieri era with Valverde or Montella.
