Manuel Pellegrini was spotted in the stands of the Stadio Olimpico for the recent Derby and had dinner with the Roma brass afterward. The Giallorossi are leaning toward keeping Daniele De Rossi but have to agree to a new contract since he inked just a seasonal one when he was hired to replace José Mourinho, Il Messaggero informed.

The Chilean gaffer and the hierarchy exchanged ideas and plans for the future. It remains to be determined whether the conversations could turn into something more.

Pellegrini has been the only coach the Roma execs have reportedly talked to since appointing De Rossi. While the former captain has led a turnaround, it wouldn’t be the first time the Friedkin family makes surprising choices out of the blue.

The 70-year-old has spent the last four campaigns at Betis, finishing sixth twice and fifth once. They are currently eighth in the standings. He won the Premier League with Manchester City back in 2014. He has managed Villarreal, Real Madrid, Malaga, Hebei CFFC, and West Ham during the course of his career.

Our Take on Roma, De Rossi, and Pellegrini

They have a good thing going and better not mess this up and secure a multi-year extension with the present manager. They eventually denied the report. Still, it’s possible that the veteran gaffer might be ready to transition to a role in the front office. It wouldn’t be the worst thing to add some experience there.
