Leonardo Spinazzola has stayed healthy and logged the most minutes on the flank so far, but he might not be long for Roma. He’s on an expiring contract. There’s no ongoing negotiation to prolong it.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Fantacalcio), the 30-year-old wing-back is pursuing the final large deal of his career. It’ll be tough for him to get it from the Giallorossi. He elected to pass on the opportunity to move to Saudi Arabia last summer. Al Shabab had offered him €7M annually.

Spinazzola could be more enticed to transfer to the Middle East in January, if there are no advancements on his renewal, or especially next summer, should he become a free agent.

On the other hand, Roma would want to be adequately compensated if he left early. Considering his prominent role, they have set a €15M valuation for the winter window. The Giallorossi might not necessarily replace him since they have Nicola Zalewski waiting in the wings.

In addition, Stephan El Shaarawy and all three of their right-backs, Rick Karsdorp, Rasmus Kristensen, and Zelik Celik, can adapt to the left flank in a pinch.

Our Take on Roma and Spinazzola

While he’s solid, although he hasn’t been a consistent force as in his heyday this season, selling him for that sum would be a masterstroke akin to Lazio getting full price for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. A Bosman departure figures to be more likely.
