Nicolo Rovella was all smiles after Lazio’s tight 1-0 win over Fiorentina, commenting on the team’s reaction and coming challenges.

The Biancocelesti’s 3-1 loss to Feyenoord in the Champions League last week threatened to throw the ship off course after a run of good form, but Maurizio Sarri’s side bounced back in their clash with the Viola.

Fiorentina had a goal disallowed in the early stages of the match and Lazio took control in the second half, pushing to find a winner. In the final minute, a handball by Nikola Milenkovic gifted a penalty to the home side, allowing Ciro Immobile to step up and score a dramatic late winner.

Speaking in the mixed zone (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) after the win over Fiorentina, Rovella first discussed Lazio’s tiring clash.

Great satisfaction, we are also very happy for Ciro, today was an important victory also for our progress in the league.

Fiorentina are a strong team that are competing for the positions we aspire to. It was a fundamental victory.

He touched on how the team have bounced back.

Consistency is the thing we lacked at the beginning, now we are trying to find it. We had a setback in Rotterdam, but in the league, we are continuing on the right path. We will continue like this.

The 21-year-old was asked about his role in the squad.

I’m happy with the job I have, I still have to improve many things, I got an unnecessary booking. But we’re all strong in midfield, whoever goes on the pitch always plays well. We’re happy about this.

Rovella spoke about what Immobile’s goal means.

Ciro has always been strong, not just when he scores goals. He is a legend here in Rome, he is our captain, we have always been with him and today we are very happy.

He gave his thoughts on Maurizio Sarri’s work in recent days.

The coach wasn’t happy just like all of us weren’t happy. It was right and important to have a reaction against Fiorentina.

We’re happy like this, a victory like today’s gives morale, strength to continue our journey in the league.

Finally, Rovella discussed his and Lazio’s goals for the season.

We build a lot, we have had many opportunities. We have to work on this, just as we have to work on the defensive phase.

We are at the beginning of the season, we will improve in everything. We are calm and serene.
