Whilst favourites are in place for the head coach position at AC Milan, Arrigo Sacchi has advised his former club to make a move for a manager whom he once suggested to Silvio Berlusconi.

Stefano Pioli’s tenure at Milan is all but over, even if nothing has been confirmed by the club, given they are sticking to their decision to wait until the end of the season to confirm their position, even if both parties know it.

The route forward is finding an heir to build upon the foundations laid by the 58-year-old. At the moment, Sergio Conceicao looks like a heavy favourite to get the job, and a meeting has been scheduled with his current club to discuss their futures.

However, Rossoneri legend Sacchi has thrown another name into the mix in his column for Gazzetta dello Sport (via Radio Rossonera) and advised the club to pursue him and offer the coach what he wants for the best chances of success.

“Several years ago, I advised Maurizio Sarri to Berlusconi: he didn’t listen to me. Today, the advice is the same. I would like to propose Sarri’s name for Milan, he is good, very good. With Sarri, AC Milan can open a cycle, on the condition of putting him in the best conditions to perform at his best and therefore handing over those players he requires.

“If not Sarri, then Roberto De Zerbi. He has qualities, both technical and human, he is a man of depth, has innovative ideas and makes his teams practise avant-garde football.”
