Reports from Russia claim that Maurizio Sarri rejected an approach from Spartak Moscow in order to wait for the Milan job.

The 65-year-old Italian coach unexpectedly resigned from his post at Lazio last month following a shock 2-1 loss to relegation candidates Udinese, ending a three-year spell at the helm. In the weeks since, he’s been linked with a number of clubs including Fiorentina and Napoli.

Milan are still undecided regarding the future of coach Stefano Pioli following a disappointing first half of the season. Recent results have impressed, but there’s still doubts, and a change could be made at the end of the season.

Sarri waits for Milan?

Russian outlet Championat via TMW reported this morning that Spartak Moscow contacted Sarri to explore his availability as they look to make a change, but the club were rejected and allegedly told that the coach ‘would lead Milan in the summer’.

Media reports in Italy have floated a number of possible options for the Rossoneri should they decide to replace Pioli in the summer, like Thiago Motta and Roberto De Zerbi, but Sarri has not been a particularly popular suggestion in recent months.
