Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has been nominated as one of the finalists for the William Hill Men’s International Player by the Scottish Football Writers.

The 27-year-old will go up against Celtic captain Callum McGregor, Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn and Norwich City goalkeeper Angus Gunn for the award.

McTominay has been a pivotal part of not just Steve Clarke’s side as they qualified for Euro 2024 in Germany, but he has always been an influential figure for United in what has been his best goalscoring season yet.

A lot of critics will say McTominay is a limited player that doesn’t belong at a top club like United. However, he has been outstanding at times this season and I don’t think Erik ten Hag fully realised that last summer when they were suggestions that he could be sold. In hindsight, they would have been a mistake.

Scotland will hope that McTominay can continue his form into the summer ahead of the European championships.
