Sheffield United face a suspension setback as arguably their most consistent defender this season, Jack Robinson, is ruled out for the upcoming challenging trip to Chelsea.

Robinson accumulated his fifth booking of the season in the victory over Brentford, triggering a one-match ban in the Premier League. This suspension follows Oliver Norwood’s absence in the Brentford game for a similar reason. Additionally, defenders Jayden Bogle and Anel Ahmedhodzic, along with striker Will Osula, are walking a disciplinary tightrope with four bookings each.

Chris Wilder’s choices for the Stamford Bridge visit will be reinforced by the return of Norwood and striker Oli McBurnie after serving suspensions themselves.

The decision remains uncertain whether the returning United boss will maintain the impressive 4-3-3 formation showcased against Liverpool and Brentford. With Robinson suspended, Max Lowe might step in at left-back, while Auston Trusty could partner Ahmedhodzic in central defence. Additionally, McBurnie may earn a starting spot, potentially replacing Osula against Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

To add, George Baldock could also be in consideration to start if he feels at 100% following a tight hamstring picked up against Liverpool.

My take

This current formation is working well, and the aggressive gameplan from Wilder and his coaching staff has got this team’s tails up. But now we’re in a predicament where the Blades are going to be without one of their best players for a tough away trip.

I think it’s obvious Trusty will fill in for Robinson’s position, but then you need to fill the left-back slot, and to be honest, Lowe didn’t pull up any trees before his injury. Therefore, I would hope to see Baldock step in at left-back if he is ready for a return.
