Stephen Bettis, the Sheffield United CEO, has revealed the details behind the absence of Daniel Jebbison this season.

Throughout the 2023/24 season, the promising 20-year-old has been unable to play in any competitive matches for Sheffield United due to a blend of injury and illness.

Jebbison, who played a bit-part role under Paul Heckingbottom’s leadership, observed the team’s triumphant progression to secure automatic promotion from the Championship in the previous campaign. It marked his first proper season within the first-team squad. He marked last term with a goal and an assist.

Unfortunately, after showing signs of promise in the Championship, the Canadian-born striker has been unable to capitalise on that progress. Bettis explained to the Yorkshire Post what the issue is behind Jebbison’s absence.

Sheffield United’s CEO on Daniel Jebbison’s injury absence

Bettis said: “At times you are respecting the players privacy and their medical records but I know that Daniel is happy because I have spoken to him about it, that he’s happy for me to say what I’m saying to you.

“We do blood tests on the players regularly to check various things and following a blood test Daniel had here, he basically got a blood clot. Then that involved that whole process of figuring out what happened, why it happened, how it can’t happen again.

“I really feel sorry for Daniel but he’s close to coming back and I think he will play for us before the end of this season, he’ll get games for us which will be great. We as a club, he is someone we would love to get him nailed down to a longer term contract and as I say we are having positive discussions with him now.”

As of now, Jebbison’s Sheffield United contract is due to expire in the summer, but Chris Wilder and now Bettis have openly stated talks to renew his deal are progressing well.
