Damien Duff has been recommended for the Celtic job one day by a former teammate of his during his playing days…
The former Republic of Ireland winger enjoyed a very long and respected career in the game down in the English Premier League and counted Chelsea and Blackburn Rovers amongst his ex-clubs in the 2000’s.
A stellar performer at both club and international level
A stellar performer at both club and international level, Duff earned the recognition of his peers and the general footballing world for his wonderful abilities and never-say-die attitude on the field of play. And Duff also counts a remarkable European run with Fulham in his playing days too, with the Cottagers reaching the Europa League Final in 2010 under Roy Hodgson, only to be beaten by Atletico Madrid in the end up.

And it’s at Fulham were he played with the man who has recommended him in the highest terms as a possible future Celtic boss too. Giorgios Karagounis played alongside the Shelbourne manager at the London outfit and reckons he could manage a bigger club than the one he has led to the Irish title this season too.
‘He always gave everything 100%’
The Greek legend said of his old teammate: “Could Damien Duff manage Celtic or Chelsea? Why not,” he said as reported by Scottish Sun. “As a team-mate, Damien Duff was special. He was very professional at Fulham and he helped me a lot. He always gave everything 100%. He was a great team-mate and a very good friend, I think he will have a very good career as a coach. He has a winning mentality and I wish him well, he is an extraordinary guy.”
Duff was highly regarded during his time at Celtic
Duff, of course, was an assistant coach at Celtic Park before he upped sticks and moved back home to be closer to his family at the time. He was highly regarded inside the club and it’s not hard to see why, after he guided the League of Ireland side to their first Irish title in 18 years. It’s not outwith the realms of possibility that Duff could return to the club one day in that sort of capacity, depending on how his career trajectory as a manager goes.
He’s certainly made a good start to it anyway… that’s for sure.
